Appropriation Video: Altered States
In my digital art class, we were assigned a project where we create a video of found footage and audio, that gives the feel of a fantastical "other world" or an altered state of consciousness, like dream, vision, hallucination, or psychedelic trip. There was an emphasis on the mood we were trying to create instead of a narrative, as it should come second to artistry.
When gifted with this prompt, I knew exactly knew what I wanted to do. I have been playing a calm farming video-game with two of my friends occasionally. The vibe I wanted to go with is the escapism and fun that I get from playing Stardew Valley with my good friends. I want to combine both reality and video-games for a reality bending theme. Essentially, I want to create a love letter to playing the game together, and the memories we’ve made and the moments we share in Pelican Town. I recorded the audio of a couple of our play stations and asked my friends to run around to get some footage to edit over. I used a lot of music and sound effects from the game, so I'll link the developer's page here. (ConcernedApe)
